DETROIT -- Olympia Entertainment released preliminary plans for the Hockeytown Winter Festival, which will be held at Comerica Park leading up to the Winter Classic January 1, 2013 at Michigan Stadium.
The Festival will begin Dec. 15 and conclude with an alumni game featuring NHL legends from the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs on New Year's Eve.
DEC. 15-26: Celebration of Hockey featuring amateur games, corporate outings and open skates.
DEC. 27-28: Great Lakes Invitational featuring the Michigan Wolverines, Michigan State Spartans, Western Michigan Broncos and Michigan Tech Huskies all competing for the 2012 MacInnes Cup.
DEC. 29: Ontario Hockey League doubleheader featuring the Windsor Spitfires taking on the Saginaw Spirit and the Plymouth Whalers battling the J. Ross Robertson Cup champion London Knights.
DEC. 31: Red Wings-Maple Leafs Alumni Showdown featuring legendary players from two of the NHL's most storied franchises going head-to-head.
Saginaw Spirit President Craig Goslin said that further details will be released when available, but the anticipation is starting to build.
“This will be a premier, once in a lifetime event for the OHL and the four participating franchises. The commitment that the Ilitch family and Olympia Entertainment have made is extraordinary. The Saturday doubleheader is an exciting opportunity to display the OHL brand to tens of thousands of new potential fans, and current fans of the league will not want to miss it.”
