23-year-old prospect Bryan Rufenach was killed when he came in contact with an overhead power line after climbing on top of a stopped train while traveling in Switzerland.
Rufenach was drafted in the seventh round by the Red Wings in 2007. The defenseman split time last season between the Toledo Walleye and the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL.
The Red Wings announced his death Wednesday, but offered no further comments.
