Jordyn Wieber got off to a hot start in the first round of competition at the U.S. Olympic trials for the women’s gymnastic team Friday night.

The 16-year-old Michigan representative holds an early lead in the trials, and will have an opportunity to play for the only guaranteed spot on the five-person squad for the London Olympics.

The leader of the all-around title will receive the coveted spot, with Wieber’s total score of 61.7 narrowly leading second place Gabby Douglass at 61.4 points.

The second round of competition will begin at 9pm Sunday airing on NBC.
