The Detroit Tigers Justin Verlander got the privilege of opening as the starting pitcher for the American League in Tuesday’s All-Star game in Kansas City.
The Tigers ace was only expected to pitch two innings, however lasted just one after surrendering five runs on four hits.
First baseman Prince Fielder also got the start for the American League. Although the slugger failed to reach base in his only two at bats before being replaced by Paul Konerko just one night after winning the Home Run Derby.
Miguel Cabrera was the third and final Tiger selected to the American League squad. The Tigers third baseman grounded into a double play in his first at bat replacing starter Adrian Beltre.
