Tom Kite leads senior open after record setting front-nine in opening round

LAKE ORION -- Tom Kite is atop of the leaderboard after shooting a five-under 65, including a USGA Open championship record seven-under 28 on the front nine at Indianwood Golf & Country club during the opening round of the 33rd Senior Open Thursday.

Kite holds a one-shot lead over Lance Ten Broeck and Bernhard Langer, with five golfers tied for fourth at three-under.

The 62-year-old had five birdies and an eagle on the front-nine, however had eight pars and a double bogey after making the turn.

The second round of the Senior Open will resume Friday, with Kite’s group set to tee off at 8:40 a.m.
