MIDLAND -- Meet the Loons new lead-off hitter, Darnell Sweeney.

The 21-year-old was drafted in the 13th round by the Dodgers in the 2012 MLB draft. He spent some time in Ogden, before he was moved up to Great Lakes.

That's good news for the Loons, a team that has struggled getting on base.

Sweeney immediately beefed up those poor percentages.

Through 30 games, counting his time in Ogden, the Loons' new shortstop has an on base percentage of .374.

NBC 25 caught up with the Miami native last week and asked him everything from how he got his start (hint he also played basketball in high school,) to what his favorite TV show is.

Overall, Sweeney says he's just blessed to be in Midland.
