MT. MORRIS TWP. -- The Beecher Buccaneers are going into the 2012 season with the same formula as any season--tough, fast and physical football.
Only this time, they have to do it without four-year starting quarterback Antuan Burks.
Head coach Courtney Hawkins said he doesn't believe in rebuilding and won't give his Bucs any excuses for coming up short this year. As with any other season, the goal is to win the GAC and a district title.
"It's a physical conference," Hawkins said of the GAC-Red Division. "It's gonna be black and blue."
Last season, Beecher finished second in the GAC-Red and made the playoffs for a fifth straight season.
"Hopefully we can change that," Tyrone Southward, Beecher senior receiver and defensive back, said. "It's really important for us to win that championship."
Beecher begins their season August 23 against Flint Northwestern at Atwood Stadium.
