SAGINAW TONWSHIP -- Our Nouvel Catholic Central high school football preview continues with an inside look at what a game week entails for the defending Division 7 state champs.

"We're in a game week, because we're playing on Thursday, so essentially this is our Monday of game week today," said head coach Mike Boyd after practice on Friday.

After weeks of two-a-days and wind sprints, the grind of preseason transforms into something different.

"The focus changes from just getting the basics down to focusing on a team and what they're doing and what they're trying to do to us," said senior Josh Koepplinger.

The average game week for Nouvel begins on the field, with special teams and scouting of their upcoming opponent, but it doesn't end there.

"So we're headed to video right now, we'll split up the team between video and the weight room," said Boyd.  "It's a lot of teaching and a lot of special teams on a Monday."

If it sounds like a lot, it's because Nouvel has a lot to live up to after a perfect 13-0 season in 2011 that ended with a state championsihp.

"We got to keep rising, as a program we talked about it being a tradition of this program," said Boyd.  "We have got to come to work every single day with a great attitude and to be completely focused."

This year's squad hopes to duplicate last season's perfection, but they have to take it one game at a time.

"We have to focus on one game at a time instead of looking to the playoffs instead of looking to ford field we have to just need to look at the next team," said Koepplinger.
