SWARTZ CREEK -- The Swartz Creek football team is in the midst of their best season ever - and they agree that it is, in part, because they have the best offensive line they have ever had.
Senior quarterback Jaylen Schoenfield, playing his first-ever season as a quarterback, has thrown for 1974 yards and 25 touchdowns in seven games. He has the Dragons 7-0 (6-0 in the Flint Metro League) headed into their NBC25 Game of the Week matchup at Fenton.
Shoenfield said the culture of Swartz Creek football has changed with the arrival of first-year head coach Brad Brown and that he wouldn't be able to put up the numbers he has without his offensive line.
"All we have to do is execute," Schoenfield said of his coaches and offensive line. "They work all week so we can do what we do."
His favorite target, senior Max Cummings, has caught ten of those scores for 949 yards.
"It all starts with the line," Cummings said. "They just keep Jaylen clean and with this offense, it's easy to get open in space."
Senior guard Devin Mosholder appreciates the accolades from his teammates, but realizes their season is far from finished.
"It's been a great year, I'm proud of it," Mosholder said. "We've got a lot more work to do."
Swartz Creek will play at Fenton on Friday, October 12 at 7:00.
