DETROIT -- “I’ve underachieved all year.”

That was the answer Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland had after being asked if this year would be a success if the Detroit Tigers do not win the World Series.

The skipper talked about how there will always be doubters and detractors regardless of how the Tigers finish.

“If we’re fortunate enough to win this one then we don’t win the one next year, then this one will be a fluke,” Leyland said. “You just have to remember you can’t please everybody. We've done the best we could. Is it going to be good enough? We'll find out.

When asked if that meant he'd be back next season:

“I don’t know about that.”

The Tigers will play on the road against either San Francisco or St. Louis on Wednesday in Game one of the 2013 World Series.
