FENTON -- Beecher’s historic season ended Saturday, losing to Detroit Loyola 54-6 in the MHSAA Division Seven semifinal in Fenton.

The Bucs trailed by 22 points before scoring their only points – a 65-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by senior Eric Cooper in the second quarter.

The Bull Dogs outmatched Beecher on both sides of the ball but the Bucs said they will not let the loss define their season.

“This season was still successful without the state championship,” Cooper said. "We won districts--first time in school history--and regionals so it was successful.”

Head coach Courtney Hawkins said he simply told his team how proud he was of them after the loss.

“They made history even though right now it doesn't seem like much to them,” Hawkins said. “But they've set the standard for, hopefully, what's to come in the future.”

Beecher’s season ends with an 8-5 record.
