BURTON -- It was an emotional night for dozens of people who attended a candlelight vigil for 10 horses that died last week in a barn fire in Burton.

The fire happened at the Midnite Sun Training Center on Lippincott Road.

Community members came to Burton Fire Station 2 to remember the animals.

They surrounded a poster that read "Rest in Peace Forever in our Hearts" that also displayed pictures of the horses and the ribbons they had won.

“It's a heart-warming feeling to know that so many people back us up and care about us,” Jim Smallwood said.  Smallwood owned four of the horses that were killed.

Police are currently investigating the matter further.

A 16-year-old suspect was in custody but was released Tuesday pending further investigation.
