Spirit offense silenced at Plymouth

PLYMOUTH -- The Saginaw Spirit suffered a 4-0 loss to their arch-rivals the Plymouth Whalers Saturday night in Plymouth, moving the season record between the two teams to 3-3-1-0. Spirit goalie Tadeas Galansky earned the game’s third star honors with 47 saves on 51 shots. The Spirit are in seventh place in the OHL Western Conference with 70 points and a record of 32-27-4-2. The Erie Otters moved ahead of the Spirit in the standings to sixth place with 71 points after they beat the Owen Sound Attack in overtime Saturday night.

The Whalers tallied four goals in the contest, the first coming in the first period from Tyler Brown at 14:39. Robbie Czarnik and Tyler Seguin assisted on the goal. Plymouth took a three goal lead in the second frame, with Austin Levi scoring from A.J. Jenks at 14:41 and Austin Mattson scoring from Czarnik and Seguin at 17:21. Czarnik capped off the game’s scoring in the third period with a power play goal at the 18:49 mark, courtesy assists from Seguin and Jenks.

Spirit neminder Tadeas Galansky posted 47 saves on 51 shots to earn the game’s third star honors, while Whalers goalie Matt Hackett earned the shutout and the first star of the game with 31 saves on 31 shots.
