Hornets wallop Genesee Christian in five innings, 11-1
NEW LOTHROP -- The New Lothrop baseball team found themselves down 1-0 after a half-inning in Friday's Division Four District Title game versus Genesee Christian. Clearly, the Hornets weren't happy about it.
The home team responded by scoring 11 unanswered runs en route to a district crown, pummeling Genesee Christian by an 11-1 final. New Lothrop began their offensive onslaught in unorthodox fashion, as Genesee Christian second baseman Braden Buchalski committed a costly, two-run error on a routine grounder off the bat of the Hornets' Tyler Bennett. That gave New Lothrop a first-inning 2-1 lead - an advantage they would not relinquish.
Bennett later added a towering, RBI triple in the third to help spark the Hornets' offense.
New Lothrop moves on to the MHSAA regional playoffs, where they will meet the winner of the Fowler district tournament.
