Former Ithaca quarterback sees redshirting as "great opportunity"
MT. PLEASANT -- Ithaca's hometown hero is now a Chippewa, but he will not be the starter as Central Michigan looks to rebound from their lackluster 2010 season.
Central Michigan football came crashing back down to Earth following a 3-9 record last year, following a four-year stretch that saw three MAC Championships in Mt. Pleasant.
CMU brings in a new recruiting class for their 2011 season, a class that includes freshman quarterback Alex Niznak from Ithaca High School.
Niznak led Ithaca to a state championship in 2010 and hopes to make a strong showing for CMU.
However, Niznak will likely be redshirted, according to coach Dan Enos, who believes that Ryan Radcliff and A.J. Westendorp are better suited for the starting role.
Despite this, Niznak believes he has a great opportunity by being redshirted.
"When it is time to compete to be the backup or the starter or whatever the case may be, I'm ready to go and I have an understanding where I'm flying by the seat of my pants," Niznak said.
