Coming off a huge win in week two the Millington Cardinals seems to be running on all cylinders.
MILLINGTON -- The Millington Cardinals took to their home field Wednesday, the same one that will host the Caro Tigers Thursday night, to prepare for week two of the 2011 season.
Head Coach Roger Bearss said while the scoreboard was lopsided in the Cardinals favor in week one over Mt. Morris, there were some break downs on both sides of the ball in the first half and plenty to work on, especially getting their juniors some more reps. Millington lost nearly 10 offensive players to graduation in 2010. The team's motto for 2011: 'Different team, same dream.'
After two straight trips to the state semi finals, Coach Bearss would like to see his team make it there again, and perhaps beyond, but that is not their focus this early in the season.
"Obviously we'd be disappointed [if we didn't make it back to the semi finals,] but there are no guarantees in life," Coach Bearss said. "We're not going to dwell on the fact, 'are we going to make it to states or to the playoffs?' We're counting each game one game at a time. Hopefully in the end we hope to play for the conference championship and playoffs."
