SAGINAW -- Come out to Lake Linton on any given morning, or evening, and you will find them. Men and women of all ages, getting out in the water and rowing.
"We all have day jobs," Saginaw Rowing Club President Donovan Ortego said. "Our practices are on Tuesdays and Thursdays around 6:30, but we pretty much come out whenever we can get a boat together."
The Saginaw Rowing Club was started about six years ago, but has roots going back to the 1800's.
The club currently has 28 members, but is always looking for new faces.
"A lot of people are asking me about rowing again, seeing it on the Olympics," Ortega said.
The London games may up the interest a bit, but Ortega said they're always out in the water, and it's easy to get started.
"I got my friend Shelley and we started rowing," Alysandra Sanchez said.
Eighteen-year-old Sanchez got her start with "America Rows," a nation-wide program by USA Rowing to get more people with diverse backgrounds involved in the sport.
"I've met coaches from Michigan, MSU," she said.
The goal for some might be a college scholarship, but for others, the goal just might be to get a bit more toned.
"Rowing gets you in great shape," Ortega said.
Whatever your reasons, the rowing club said their door, or rather their boat, is always open.
