SAGINAW -- Olympic gold medalist Claressa Shields dropped the first puck of the 2012 season for the Saginaw Spirit.
The crowd of over 3,000 people along with the players and coaches gave the Flint Northwestern senior a standing ovation as she was introduced to the ice.
Shields, 17, returning from a trip to New York, signed autographs and took pictures with fans before the game as well.
When asked about a future in hockey, Shields laughed then took a pass.
"It's a great sport," she said. "They enjoy it--let them do it. I'm not doing it!"
