Spirit Fall to Colts, Lindberg Receives First Goal of OHL Career

The Saginaw Spirit battled the Barrie Colts on Thursday night on the road falling to the Colts 8-5.

BARRIE, ONTARIO -- The Saginaw Spirit battled the Barrie Colts on Thursday night on the road falling to the Colts 8-5.

 

The Colts came out strong in the first scoring two goals less than five minutes into the game. The Colts' first goal was scored by Andreas Athanasiou with the assist from Zach Hall, and the second goal from Erik Bradford from Brendan Bell and Josh MacDonald. Shortly after, the Spirit scored their first goal of the game from Brandon Lindberg, his first OHL Career goal. The assist went to Nick Moutrey and Jimmy Lodge. The Colts' then added two more goals, recorded by Anthony Camara on an assist by Steven Beyers, followed by another goal from Erik Bradford assisted by Josh MacDonald.

 

The scoring opened up in the second period on a Colts' power play goal by Zach Hall assisted by Steven Beyers. The Spirit quickly followed with two more goals, one from Steven Strong, his first of the season, assisted by Justin Kea and a power play goal by Garret Ross assisted by Vince Trocheck and Grant Webermin. The Colts' came back to score another from Andreas Athanasiou assisted by Mark Scheifele and Steven Beyers. Spirit made a goal tending change at that point in the period, as rookie Nikita Serebrykov took over. The second period ended Barrie 6 - Saginaw 3.

 

The Colt's continued to play a strong third period, recording the first goal scored by Andreas Athanasiou, giving him a hat trick in the game. The Spirit fired back with two more goals, the first by Eric Locke with assists from Sam Povorozinouk and Justin Kea. The second goal of the period for the Spirit was also Garret Ross' second goal of the game assisted by Vince Trocheck and Grant Webermin. The Colts ended scoring one more goal on the empty net by Josh MacDonald. The game ended Barrie 8 - Saginaw 5, with the Spirit out shooting the Colts 39 - 22.
