The Spirit suited up in Kingston on Sunday afternoon, to play in their third game in two and a half days taking the ice against the Frontenacs.

After Spirit center Jimmy Lodge was sent to the box for two minutes,  his teammate Terry Trafford took advantage of a two-on-one play, sending the puck to Eric Locke who then scored his 13thgoal of the season to open the scoring. Locke’s shorthanded goal was the only goal of the first period that ended 1-0 Spirit.

The second period included more special teams goals when Frontenacs Assistant Captain Darcy Greenaway tied the score at one with a power play goal. Greenaway’s goal was assisted by Warren Steele and Captain Cody Alcock. Spirit winger Nick Moutrey answered for Saginaw when he sent what seemed like a harmless shot on goal past an unsuspecting Mike Morrison. Moutrey’s goal was unassisted and gave Saginaw a 2-1 lead. Following that goal, 19 seconds into a power play, the Frontenacs answered once more when Spencer Watson tied the score at 2, assisted by Henri Ikonen and Michael Moffat. The second period ended tied at 2.

Kingston took the lead for the first time in the third period, when Henri Ikonen scored his 6th goal of the season, assisted by Jean Dupuy and Roland McKeown. The Frontenacs scored once more in the third with their third power play goal of the game, as Billy Jenkins made the score 4-2. Assists on the goal went to Darcy Greenaway and Michael Moffat. Saginaw came right back when Spirit Captain Vince Trocheck scored unassisted, recording his 13th goal of the season. Following the Trocheck goal, Dalton Young buried a shot to tie the game at four, with assists going to Jimmy Lodge and Grant Webermin.

With fours on the scoreboard after the overtime period, the game would be decided in a shootout. Frontenacs goaltender Mike Morrison managed to stop all five Spirit shots while Kingston saw Sam Bennett find the back of the net for the winning goal. The Spirit gained a point in the shootout loss, to take five of six points on the weekend.
