BIRCH RUN -- The Birch Run softball team beat Mt. Morris 7-5 Thursday afternoon, only to drop game two of the doubleheader 7-0 in Birch Run.

Prior to the games, Birch Run senior Taylor Blackmer signed a national letter of intent to play softball at Saginaw Valley State University next year.

The Cardinals began the day in first place in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a record of 11-1 (24-6 overall).

"Just picking the right school is always nerve wracking.  All the paperwork that goes with it.   But I'm glad its finally done and over with.  I can just relax for the rest of my senior year," said Blackmer.
