DETROIT -- Remember all of the gorgeous weather we enjoyed over the past couple weeks?

Well it went the way of a hanging curveball to Miguel Cabrera:  going, going, gone.  Long gone.

But the cold weather in Michigan did not seem to dampen the enthusiasm of the fans who showed up to Comerica Park for the Tigers' home opener on Friday.

"Not at all. All you gotta do is put another layer on.  You know, my son is 17-months old and this is his 33rd game in two years, and he seems fine with it.  This is actually better than some of the games he's been to," said Windsor resident Doug Kaczmarski, who bundled his son up in a Tigger outfit and gloves.

"You can think sure, tomorrow will be 65 and sunny.  But it's not raining, it's not snowing, we've had that.  So, it could be worse!" added Livonia's Laurie Blacker.

Richard Francis of Roseville made the most of his first opening day, sporting a lifelike Tiger hat, complete with a moving baseball bat: "This is the first time I've ever been to an Opening Day.  So it's a total experience for me. The cold doesn't bother me, I love it.  As I got older, childhood just began. Got all these hats, I got it for all the sports. I got it for all the games."

Tiger fans seem to be in total agreement that Mother Nature's wrath does not diminish the excitement of Opening Day 2010.  Nonetheless, Tigers fans know that warmer weather does lay ahead, and they hope they can say the same for a winning season.
