Flint wins home playoff opener; trail series 2-1

FLINT -- The Flint Generals scored three goals in a span of 2:18 in the middle of the second period to propel them to a 4-1 victory in game 3 of their semi final series against the Muskegon Lumberjacks at Perani Arena on Tuesday night.

After a scoreless first period that saw Muskegon starting goaltender Sebastien Centomo leave the game after just over 10 minutes of play with an apparent groin injury, Robin Bouchard scored his first goal of the series in the 2nd period on the powerplay deflecting a shot from Mario Larocque at the 6:59 mark.  After that it was all Generals as Dan Lapointe scored the first goal on Lumberjacks goaltender Matt Lundin at the 8:24 mark on assists from Brandon Gentile and Matt Moffat.

John Mori then lifted a backhand high into the Muskegon net at the 10:03 mark to give the Generals a 2-1 lead.  The goal was assisted by Jamie Schaafsma and Bryan Smolinski.  Nathan Ward then completed the scoring in the 2nd period when he scored at the 10:42 mark off a cross ice feed from Jake Pence.  The Generals didn’t sit back on their lead, and rounded out the scoring in the 3rd period when Pascal Rheaume scored on the powerplay at the 14:28 mark with assists going to John Ronan and Bryan Smolinski.  Rob Nolan picked up the win in goal for the Generals stopping 30 of 31 Muskegon shots.
