Redskins linebacker greets over 200 kids at alma mater

MIDLAND -- Northwood alum and current Washington Redskins linebacker Chris Wilson was scheduled to host a free football clinic early last month, until a Redskin team function changed those plans.  But the Flint native kept his promise to over 200 very excited kids.

Saturday was the day that Wilson got to host his clinic, and the gorgeous weather certainly made it worth the wait.  Wilson teamed up with the United Way of Midland County, as he made his way to his old collegiate stomping grounds.

Kids got to practice in a series of football drills, with instruction from members of the Northwood football team, and some of Wilson's friends from around the league.

The 27 year-old hopes his journey to stardom can motivate today's kids.

"Today was really just about getting the community out here, giving back, just trying to show myself physically, as well as talk to the kids, any questions they might have," said Wilson.  "Just to lead them in the right direction, it's hard, but it's very simple. Just to get the kids to understand that a guy from right here in the Mid-Michigan area, who went to Northwood University, can make the best out of his situation, and encourage them to do the same - to make the most of their situation. A little encouragement goes a long way, 'cause I was there, so I know."
