Home opener set for September 19th

FLINT -- The club football team at the University of Michigan-Flint will have a season after all, playing its home games at downtown Flint's Atwood Stadium.

Team president/head coach Randy Young and the Flint Area Chamber of Commerce held a press conference Wednesday afternoon, detailing the team's development.

"I think its important to the city.  I think its important to the kids in the area who wanna continue their football career.  I just think there's a lot that can be done for the city with this program," said Young, a Genesee Township police officer who originally planned on having the team put together for the 2009 season.

But a lack of funding stopped the season before it ever began.  The team is in better shape financially this year, but still could use more funding.

"We're still looking for more sponsors, more players.  Anybody that wants to help, this is all in for everybody.  We want everybody to get a chance to get in on the ground level with this," added Young.

The team currently has 25 players, but more could be added once the fall semester begins.

UM-Flint's home opener is September 19th versus Wright State University.

The team is set to join the Midwestern Club Football Conference.
