Former Detroit Tigers player and manager Alan Trammell is joining a former teammate in Arizona.
Trammell announced Tuesday that he will join Diamondbacks' manager Kirk Gibson as the team's bench coach. Trammell was the bench coach for the Chicago Cubs under Lou Piniella and Mike Quade. He held that role since 2007.
Trammell managed his former major league team, the Detroit Tigers, from 2003 to 2005. He had a record of 186-300. The 2003 team nearly matched the modern MLB record of 120 losses set by the New York Mets in 1962. The Tigers won five of their last six games to avoid the mark.
Trammell and Gibson teamed to lead Detroit to the 1984 World Series championship. Trammell was a six-time all-star and four-time Gold Glove winner.
