Lewis records double-double in 69-55 win

HOUGHTON -- The Northwood University men's basketball team earned a 69-55 road win over Michigan Tech Thursday night (January 27).

Northwood is now 7-12 overall, 5-6 in the GLIAC. Michigan Tech falls to 10-8 overall, 5-6 in the GLIAC.

Michigan Tech led 9-5 early, but that would prove to be their final lead of the game. The Timberwolves led by as many as 12 in the first half before settling for a 31-27 lead at the break.

The Huskies came out strong in the second half, tying the game at 35-35 with 15:21 remaining. But the Timberwolves responded with a big run of their own, scoring 14 of the next 15 points to go up 13. MTU would get no closer than nine the rest of the way.

Northwood finished the game at 40.4 percent (23-57), compared to 40.8 percent (20-49) for MTU. . NU won the game from 3-point range, making 12 triples to just two for the Huskies.

Bobby Lewis (Saginaw, Mich./Mott CC) came off the bench to lead all players with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Joe Powers (Holt, Mich./Lansing CC) scored 12 points, going 4-5 from the floor.

Northwood will travel to Northern Michigan Saturday (January 29). Game time is set for 1 p.m.
