Flint Powers crushes Detroit Consortium in battle of powerhouses

AUBURN -- A changing of the guard in the Saginaw Valley League?  Um, not so fast.

Before a packed house at Bay City Western, the Warriors appeared poised to make a statement on their home floor against first-place Saginaw, a team playing without an injured Tommie McCune.  But after racing out to an early 5-2 lead, virtually nothing went right for the Warriors for the next three-plus quarters, as they were humiliated by their league rivals by a 60-28 final.

Western scored nine points in the first quarter - and just 19 over the remaining three quarters combined.  The Trojans were paced by Marquavis Ford, with an 18-point effort.  Saginaw improves to 8-0 in SVL play, while the Warriors fell to 6-2.

Down the road in Flint, Powers Catholic rebounded from a tough loss last Friday at Carman-Ainsworth by steamrolling visiting Detroit Consortium, 73-52.  Javontae Hawkins and Patrick Lucas-Perry both turned in sterling efforts for the Chargers, with each scoring 26 points apiece.
