Hawks prevail in physical matchup

FLINT -- The Hamady girls basketball team used a 7-0 run during the third quarter to pull away from nearby Flint Northwestern, before winning 60-41 Monday night in an intensely physical game.

The referees gave Northwestern junior Shavonne Morgan a technical foul in the third quarter, then halted play in the closing minutes to try and calm down both squads.

The Hawks led 28-15 at the half.

The two-time defending champions in Class C, Hamady closes out the regular season Thursday versus Bentley.

The Hawks then host districts, beginning next Monday.

"We open up with Flint Beecher. That should be an exciting game. They're having one of their better seasons this year. My former assistant is the head coach over there now, Leon Gould. He's doing a good job. We looking forward to that also," said Hamady head coach Keith Smith.
