Both schools blow out opponents in regional semis
BIRCH RUN -- McCauley Mossner had 18 points and seven rebounds and Frankenmuth breezed into its first regional final appearance in more than a decade, after a 67-39 victory over Croswell-Lexington in the Birch Run regional Tuesday night.
Frankenmuth led 44-14 at the half.
"It helps to be here in a gym where we play every year. Its not like we're going some place we've never been before. Its not a home-court advantage but we'll take it. We haven't won a regional game in a long time. Last year was the first time we'd won a district in ten years. Now it's the first time we've won a regional game in at least that long. We're making little steps and man we sure are excited about playing a regional championship on Thursday," said Frankenmuth head coach Tom Keller after the win.
In the late game at Birch Run, senior Samantha Zirzow passed over the 1,000 career point barrier and led Goodrich to a 61-16 triumph over fellow GAC Red member Durand.
The Railroaders were forced to play without junior star Kristen Long, who sustained a season-ending knee injury during last week's district playoffs.
Frankenmuth and Goodrich will meet Thursday night, with a trip to the Class B quarterfinals on the line.
Other Mid-Michigan regional winners on Tuesday night included Midland, Hemlock, Nouvel C.C., Valley Lutheran, Hamady and Bay City All Saints.
