Bay City Western's dream season continues, with quarterfinal win over Orchard Lake St. Mary's

Beecher, Fulton-Middleton also punch tickets to Breslin Center
DAVISON -- Junior Matt Costello had 31 points and eleven rebounds and Bay City Western earned a trip to the state semifinals after a 60-49 victory over Orchard Lake St. Mary's Tuesday night at Davison High School.
"Shots just opened up and they started to fall. Some of them were extremely lucky, I've never hit them before. But the team started playing well, we locked down on defense. David Kolanek and Ryan Haag stopped their best player, and it was a beautiful team defense," said Costello after the game.
Six days after winning their first ever regional title, Bay City Western captured the school's first ever victory in the state quarterfinals.
The Warriors take on Detroit Southeastern Friday at 2:50 p.m. in the Class A semifinals at the Breslin Center in East Lansing.
The match-up will feature a showdown of future MSU teammates.
Southeastern guard Brandan Kearney will join the Spartans next fall, while Costello is set to join the program in 2012.
In Class B, Flint Powers' season came to a disappointing end with a 67-64 loss to Detroit Country Day at Ferndale High School.
The Yellowjackets have bounced the Chargers from the state playoffs two straight years.
In Class C, Beecher destroyed Muskegon Western Michigan Christian 78-55 in Mt. Pleasant, behind 17 points from Kevionte Goff.
The Bucs will be making their third trip to the state semifinals in the last four years.
Beecher takes on McBain, Thursday at 2:50 p.m.
Elsewhere in Class C, Buena Vista led Detroit Consortium 30-18 at the half in West Bloomfield, only to fade down the stretch and lose 59-54.
In Class D, Fulton-Middleton demolished Manistee Catholic Central 74-48 at Hope College.
The Pirates advance to the state semifinals, where they will face Detroit Westside Thursday at 7:50 p.m.
