Standout guard turns down chance to play with brother at Oakland

MT. MORRIS TWP. -- "So without further ado, the school I would like to announce and I will be attending next year...is the University of Pennsylvania."

With these words, the next chapter of Patrick Lucas-Perry's basketball career has now begun.

The standout guard from Flint Powers is Ivy League-bound, as Lucas-Perry will be a Penn Quaker.  He chose that school over the likes of fellow Ivy League member Harvard, as well as nearby Oakland.  The Golden Grizzlies appeared to be the front-runner due to its proximity from home, as well as the presence of Patrick's older brother, Laval, who transferred to Oakland from Michigan.

But Patrick's acceptance to one of the most prestigious schools in the nation easily clinched his decision.

"When I first got accepted, I was like wow...this is an opportunity I don't know if I can turn down," said Lucas-Perry.  "Yes of course, I've always heard of the Wharton School of Business. And right when I got the letter, I was like, 'I think I know where I'm gonna go.'"

"I'm happy, yet I'm sad," added Flint Powers head coach Tim Herman.  "Because it's an opportunity for him, yet it's like I'm losing my left arm. Because he's been such a part of this team, and really such a great friend."
