WINDSOR, ON -- The Saginaw Spirit were eliminated from the playoffs Sunday night following a 5-0 loss to the two time defending Memorial Cup Champion Windsor Spitfires at the WFCU Centre of Windsor.

The Spitfires, having won the best-of-seven series by a count of 4-2, will advance to the OHL Conference Finals to take on the Owen Sound Attack.

The loss wraps up the Spirit’s most successful post season stint yet with their second conference semi-finals appearance in three years and their two second round wins over Windsor marking the team’s first ever wins beyond the first round.

Saginaw’s postseason successes come on the heels of a standout regular season that saw the Spirit clinch their first ever division title and tally there second best regular season record since the team’s inception in 2002 with 86 points and a 40-22-4-2 record.

Sunday at the WFCU Centre, the Spitfires offense was led by winger Zack Kassian, who had three goals for the hat trick to bolster the Spitfires victory.  Center Alex Khokhlachev and winger Jeff Brown also tallied goals in the effort.  Spitfires goalie Jack Campbell posted the shutout with a 25 save effort.
