Trenz goal in second OT gives Michigan 6-5 win over Bismarck
TOPEKA, KS -- It took an exhaustive effort, but the Michigan Warriors are indeed headed to the Robertson Cup Finals in their first year of existence in the NAHL.
After blowing a 3-1, first-period lead, only to score a late goal in regulation to force overtime, the Warriors ended a marathon battle against defending champion Bismarck with a 6-5, double-overtime victory on Friday night in Topeka, Kansas. Ryan Trenz scored with 7:47 remaining in the second overtime to finish things off, as the Warriors clinched the fourth and final spot in the upcoming four-team, Robertson Cup Championship Tournament, which is played under a round-robin format.
Robert Tadazak had a rare, off-night between the pipes, allowing five goals on 44 Bismarck shots. But he was picked up nicely by his teammates, as Andrew Kolb scored a pair of goals, Kevin Gibson had a goal and two assists, and Trenz had a two-point night...including the goal which sent the Warriors to the Finals.
Michigan will battle Amarillo in their first game of the tournament, Tuesday at 4:05.
