Lugnuts strand 13 runners on base
MIDLAND -- Bobby Coyle hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the seventh inning and Logan Bawcom pitched a scoreless final five outs as the Great Lakes Loons beat the Lansing Lugnuts 7-6 Saturday night at Dow Diamond.
Jake Marisnick and Marcus Knecht combined for eight of Lansing's 16 hits, but the Lugnuts stranded 13 runners on base.
Great Lakes starter Ryan Christenson was chased after giving up ten hits and four earned runs in four and a third innings, and did not factor in the final decision.
Christenson has just one win in his last seven starts.
Loons shortstop Christian Lara underwent surgery on Saturday morning at MidMichigan Health, after breaking his ankle in several places Friday night.
The ugly injury happened during the bottom of the first inning as Lara slid into home plate.
The veteran minor leaguer will stay in Midland, until he is healthy enough to travel to Arizona to begin rehabbing the injury.
Great Lakes begins a six-game road trip in Bowling Green on Sunday night.
