Great Lakes' Nick Akins continues hot streak
MIDLAND -- A day full of home runs gave the Great Lakes Loons a big 5-2 win over the Beloit Snappers on Friday night.
Chris Jacobs hit two home runs in the game, bringing his season total to eight.
Jacobs' first home run came in the second inning, a two-run shot that also scored catcher Steve Domecus, and gave the Loons the first lead of the game.
Loons' pitcher Angel Sanchez threw four hitless innings before allowing a double in the top of the fifth.
Sanchez threw 5.1 solid innings, allowing five hits, two runs, only one of them earned and struck out four Snappers.
Loons' left fielder Nick Akins continued his hot streak with a two-run home run in the sixth inning.
Akins has hit three home runs in his last four games, racking up eight RBIs during that stretch.
The win Friday meant a clean sweep of Beloit, but with a Dayton Dragons' 2-0 victory, the Loons still sit two games behind them for the Eastern Division lead.
Great Lakes will host the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.
