Montrose welcomes the match up with Ithaca Friday in round two of the MHSAA playoffs.

MONTROSE -- It's kind of like LSU versus Alabama, but at the high school level. It's number one versus number two; the 10-0 Montrose Rams welcome the 10-0 Ithaca Yellowjackets in the second round of the MHSAA football playoffs Friday night.

It's the 19th trip to the playoffs for the Rams, who've outscored their opponents 405-69 in the regular season. But, if they want to make it to the finals at Ford Field, they have to go through a very good Ithaca team, the same one they faced in regionals last year.

But, this is a new year, and coach Dennis Reinhart said Thursday they hope to keep the game close by running the ball and managing the clock. Senior Linebacker Austin Prevo said his team has been practicing for this game all year.

"Our forte is running the football," Reinhart said. "We are going to try to keep it away from them because you can't stop them, you just have to try to slow them down. The best way to do that is to keep the ball away from them."

"Last year, it wasn't one of our best games, so this year we've been looking forward to playing against them again," Prevo said. "We want to go against them again."

They'll have their shot Friday night. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Montrose.
