DETROIT -- Its been a little more than 24 hours since Captain Nicklas Lidstrom announced his retirement.
As fans reflect on his 20 seasons with Detroit, the Red Wings are thinking about the future. That includes signing their 2011 top draft pick Thomas Jurco, which should happen any day, making a splash in free agency and focusing on the personnel do they have.
One such player they're focused on for the future is Darren Helm, who's still recovering from surgery to his right arm.
Helm showed off his battle scars Thursday to reporters. His tendons were lacerated by a skate in a very scary play in game one of the NHL playoffs against the Nashville Predators.
He had to undergo surgery shortly thereafter and missed the rest of the series, but the Wings forward said he's slowly healing and should be ready for camp in a few months.
"I feel good," Helm said. "The cast came off yesterday. I'm getting stronger every day. The doctors say I'll make a full recovery."
