MIDLAND, MI -- The Northwood University men's basketball team earned a 77-60 win over Ohio Dominican Saturday afternoon (January 5).
Northwood is now 4-8 overall, 3-5 in the GLIAC. Ohio Dominican falls to 3-10 overall, 0-8 in the GLIAC.
After an early seven point Northwood lead, the rest of the opening half was close – there were five ties and six lead changes. The Panthers would take the lead at half time 35-34. Northwood shot 46.2 percent from the floor in the half, but committed eight turnovers that resulted to eight Ohio Dominican points.
Northwood scored the opening two points of the second half and would not allow the Panthers to lead the rest of the way. NU's 17 point lead at the end of the game matched their biggest advantage of the day.
For the game, Northwood shot 46.7 percent overall (28-60) and 25.9 percent from behind the arc (7-27). Ohio Dominican shot 37.5 percent from the floor (24-64) and 10.0 percent from beyond the arc (2-20). The Timberwolves held a narrow advantage in rebounding (40-39), but finished with a 16-6 edge in second chance points.
The Timberwolves had four players finish in double figures. Wes WIlcox (Roselle, Ill./Harper) lead the way for the Timberwolves with 19 points. Andrew VanDierendonck (Wyandotte, Mich./Roosevelt) added 17 points. Darvin Ham (Saginaw, Mich./Bridgeport) came off the bench to score 15 points and grab seven rebounds, while Will Bowles (East Detroit, Mich./South Lake) added 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Northwood will travel to Wayne State on Thursday (January 10). Game time is set for 6 p.m.
