AKRON -- Dozens of organizations battled a large wildfire that affected hundreds of acres near the Saginaw Bay at the Quanicassee River. NBC25's Kathy Reynolds was on scene, where multiple firefighters and DNR officials had been working to control the blaze since about 3 p.m.  The fire came very close to some homes in Akron.  Firefighters are planning to do a back burn, which involves burning off surrounding areas to prevent the fire from spreading.

DNR officials say easily flammable phragmites, a dense type of grass near the wetlands, contributed to the spread of the fire.
