FREELAND -- The first flight out of the new terminal at MBS International Airport will take place on Wednesday.  The terminal is now officially open for business after undergoing a $55 million renovation.

It was first built in the mid 60's so MBS in Freeland was looking kinda shabby. Not anymore.

A ribbon cutting, featuring dignitaries including Senator Debbie Stabenow took place on Friday.

It's been 6 years or meetings, deadlines, drawings and construction. The majority of the funding for the project came from the federal government. The public is invited to tour the facility tomorrow.A peak inside shows a bright open terminal that compares to the one at Bishop Airport in Flint. But in shades of green and earth tones.

It's all on one floor, so the new terminal does not have stairs, escalators or elevators.
