GROVELAND TOWNSHIP (AP) -- Authorities have identified a 63-year-old fisherman who fell through the ice and died in suburban Detroit.

The Oakland County sheriff's department says the man is identified as Donald Earl Thorpe. Cause of death was pending the results of an autopsy. The department on Wednesday listed the ice angler's hometown as Holly, but it earlier said he was from nearby Rose Township.

Sheriff's department divers found his body Tuesday. He went fishing Monday on Hartwick Lake in Groveland Township, about 35 miles north-northwest of Detroit.

Authorities this week issued a public warning to remind people that frigid temperatures don't guarantee that the ice on Michigan lakes is safe.
