SAGINAW TOWNSHIP -- 30 seniors were evacuated from a Saginaw Township retirement community this morning, Saginaw fire officials tell NBC 25.

Jim Peterson, the Saginaw Township Fire Chief tells NBC 25 that a fire broke out in hallway near a large birdcage in McBrite Manor, which is located on Wieneke Road between Shattuck and Weiss.

The residents were removed from the home, some in bathrobes, largely without incident according to the fire chief.

Everyone was moved to another section of McBrite Manor.

No one was hurt.

While the building did have smoke damage, all 10 birds in the birdcage near where the fire broke out were saved.
