FLINT TOWNSHIP -- Low-lying roads and neighborhoods were left underwater after an inch of rain and melting snow caused flooding across Mid-Michigan Tuesday morning, leaving some drivers stranded and homeowners trying to bail out.

There were more headaches Tuesday evening as heavy rains hit parts of Genesee County.  Church members worked to clean up Wildwind Community Church in Flint Township.  Its lot was flooded with up to 10 inches of water in some parts.

Volunteers battled the water down in the basement.

“When we heard about the flood watch we started checking the basement regularly and were trying to gear up for tonight for another flood watch so we go over every hour or so, and see how bad the water is and we start pumping it out as quickly as we can,” said church member Christy Flowers.

Heavy rain is expected to continue into Wednesday morning and produce ponding on the roadways.
