FRANKENMUTH -- It was a serene scene on the banks of the swollen Cass River Tuesday amid a flood warning the National Weather Service issued until further notice.
In Midland, Monday's rain combined with melting snow caused the Tittabawassee River to overflow onto some low-lying roads.
"It's flooding the areas we'd typically expect to be flooded every spring,” Midland County’s Emergency Management Coordinator Roger Garner said.
Some roads along the Cass River in Bridgeport were also closed.
Business owners in nearby downtown Frankenmuth watched water levels closely, though they said they're not concerned just yet and said they’re confident the dike system built in the 50s will control river levels.
“Prior to that, flooding in this facility was a normal occurrence," Bavarian Inn’s Karen Zehnder said.
As old photos on the walls of the Bavarian Inn show, workers were used to the river flooding the restaurant.
Owner Dorothy Zehnder said, "There were moments of anxiety because you didn't know how fast the river was going to rise."
“The Cass can be mighty in the spring," Karen Zehnder said.
As of 5 p.m. Sunday, the Cass River was nearly two feet above flood stage and rising.
