FLINT -- 104 GM workers are being laid off from a Flint-based plant.
Flint Engine Operations located on Bristol Road is ceasing its third-production shift effective in April.
GM spokesman, Tom Wickham, says the move will affect 104 workers total. 44 production, 20 skilled trades and 40 temporary employees.
The Flint plant produces 1.4-liter engines for the Chevy volt, Cruze, Sonic and the Buick Encore. The plant also produces the 3.6-liter engine for the Cadillac CTS, Buick Enclave, Chevy Traverse and GMC Acadia.
The Flint Engine Operations plant will no longer produce the 1.4-liter engine for the Buick Encore. Production for that model is moving to Korea which is why the plant is ceasing its third-shift.
Company officials are not saying when the layoffs will take effect.
Employees have been notified.
